Adobe Acrobat DC generates PDF from Microsoft Word correctly, but freezes during opening of the PDF

I use Windows 10 Pro, Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.  When I make a PDF while I'm in the Microsoft Word application, everything works fine: a correct PDF is made (Step 1) and Adobe PDF DC opens to show the result (Step 2).

However, when I use Adobe Acrobat DC to make the PDF, Step 1 is carried out correctly (a correct PDF is generated) but the software freezes during Step 2, leaving the message "Please wait while the document is being prepared".  After that I really have to "kill" Adobe Acrobat DC to proceed working with it.  Any idea how to solve this?  I like to be able to work with the Adobe Acrobat DC application (instead of generating the PDF directly from an Office application) in order to be able to combine multiple (Office) files into one PDF, otherwise the failure of the Acrobat application this would not be a problem to me.

The PC is a very recent and clean setup.

Hi Marcs_uva

We are sorry for the delay in response. I hope you would be able to fix the issue by now.

If the issue still persists, as described above you are getting the error 'Please wait while the document is being prepared'

Please try unchecking "Enable assistive technology support" under the "Accessibility" option in "Preferences" and check if that helps.

You may also refer to the help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/message-content-preparation-progress-opening.html)

Let us know how it goes

Dear,

Unfortunately, both suggestions did not work.  I'm really puzzled.  Would be great if there would be a person at Adobe be available to read a Windows low level log file, to find out what is happening here.

What technique are you using to convert your Word doc to PDF?  The most reliable way (for me) is to use the PDF Maker in Word (the Acrobat Ribbon), instead of Word's save as PDF command.  The more details you can provide regarding your process, the better chance we have of helping figure out the problem.

My best,

Dave

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your reply !

If I make the PDF from the Word application itself, everything is working fine wih both methods available in Word (the Ribbon method and the "Save As Adobe PDF" method.

Where it goed wrong is, when I try to make the PDF from the Adobe Acrobat DC application itself.  The application produces the correct PDF, but then it is trying to open it, without success.  The application is responding "One moment while PDF maker is reading the Adobe PDF" and then it freezes.  I have to "kill" the application then, and get from Windows a response message "Acrobat failed to send a DDE command". It seems like Acrobat is searching for a file that it cannot find or has no access permissions to.

Thnak you very much for any further help !

Although I'm not sure exactly what is going on, I would encourage you to be sure you have all the latest patches and updates installed to not just Acrobat, but Word and Windows.  I attempted to recreate your issue, but the routine worked properly for me (but I do have Word 2013, not the 365 version).

My best,

Dave
