Adobe Acrobat DC - Submit a Form Button

Desperately need help.

3 Service reps from Adobe took control of my computer to assist me with problem:

Why "Submit a Form" action Button does not execute properly.

Each told me the button had proper settings etc, remember All 3 took control of my computer (yikes!). The last rep, a supervisor, promised the button would work for recipients and that the problem was in my system, that the adobe app was okay. THAT WAS NOT TRUE.

I tested the PDF by mailing to 2 associates. They could access the PDF fine, complete and comment fine, but button (submit a form) did nothing.

The button is set mailto:recipientemailhere  (I actually put correct email address there)

Action: Submit a form

PDF - The complete document

All Adobe information states no programming needed with these settings.

Honestly, if someone could explain to me what actually should happen when one clicks that button, I would greatly appreciate it. This is a simple builtin tool and I cannot understand why it does niot work. Shouldn't the survey respondent's email open after clicked with the document shown as a PDF attachment and the To: is the mailto-XXXXXXX information. All the respondent has to do then is click Send in email?

This project is for my father. He previously sent the surveys as a Word doc via email. I thought he needed an update to more current technology....the actual PDF looks and works fabulously, This stickin' button however is CRITICAL.

Thank you for your time and assistance. Adobe Chat, and service personnel sad to say were no help at all. I have used forums for help with MS Office and they were great. Hoping for help. So discouraged but will not give up.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Without seeing the file it's very difficult to help you with this issue... Also, please describe what exactly happens when you click the button.

I would be happy to get approval to email you the last page of the survey (with minor exclusions) with the Submit a Form button. Please advise of email address if that is acceptable on this platform and you acquiesce to such.

Research I have done online since posting my question is in line with the first response that I recieved...that IMAP and email settings for all recipients would have to be set in a particu;lar manner for the submit a form button to work.

I just question why Adobe makes it sound so easy (just install the button!) when in fact it is quite complicated to someone like myself who is unfamiliar with internet email protocol(s) etc. and javascript programming.

Really appreciate your response.

Best Regards,

Meggen

It's really not that complicated... You just need to define your email account (if you use a web-based service), or it uses the default email application on your computer by default. Almost all such clients work seamlessly with Acrobat. And you don't need to know any JS at all to set it up. Just add a button, attach to its Mouse Up event the "Submit a form" action, set the target URL to "mailto:me@server.com" (use your own email address, of course), and you're basically done!

If used it Adobe Acrobat or Reader it will probably work around 95% of the time without having to do anything special.

This method won't work if your email recipients doesn't have IMAP settings and a default email client configured in  systems.

The support reps should've made you aware of this, but it looks like they didn't.

When you want to use a workflow like this it is better that you use Adobe Sign instead; is simple, straight forward, and very easy to use.

Avoid using a submit button or a javascript action because these methods expect and will require that both you and the users of the form have their email settings and their default email clients  pre-configured.

Thank you so much.

Your information was very helpful.

We have decided to remove the button from the survey.

I will investigate your Adobe Sign suggestion this evening.

Best Regards, with MUCH Thanks,

Meggen
