It sounds like a font issue…

If you're typing a comment go to Preferences : Commenting to change the default font.

If your typing with the "Add text" tool go to Preferences : Content Editing to change the default font.

In which operaring system are you running Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, and which version or version update of Acrobat Pro are you currently using.

Does this happen with one particular PDF or every PDF document?

And what are you referring to when you mentioned about typing in a file?

Do you mean typing a file name for a PDF document that you're trying to save in a specific location?
