Question

Adobe Acrobat Lags desktop

I have noticed that although AI lags search and other functions within Acrobat (which in itself is annoying), I have noticed that if I have a document open in Acrobat, then go to my desktop and try and move an explorer window, Browser window or whatever, there is about a quarter second lag from when I click to move the window and the window actually moving. When I quit Acrobat, no lag. This was repeatable.

BTW, been using Adobe products since the 90s.

My machine:
Windows 11 Pro
64GB Ram
Ultra 9 285 CPU
16TB HHD space

    Hello @dean.p,

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. We're sorry for the trouble you had.

Could you confirm whether this is Acrobat Reader, Standard, or Pro, and share the full version/build shown under Menu > Help > About Acrobat? Also, does the lag occur with every PDF or only certain files?

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 26.002.21869, Planned update, Aug 31, 2026. Check for any pending updates from Menu >Help > Check for updates, install any pending updates, restart the app, and the computer. And try again.

Temporarily disable Acrobat’s generative AI features as an isolation test.

    Close all documents in Acrobat.

Go to Menu > Preferences > Generative AI.

Deselect Enable generative AI features, select OK, reopen the PDF, and repeat the window-movement test.

Turn off "Optimize Page Interactions." Menu> Preferences > Page Display > Rendering, untick Optimize Page Interactions, restart Acrobat, and check the performance.

Test in a clean Acrobat session

    • Open Acrobat without multiple PDFs or background tasks running.

    • Verify whether the lag occurs with all PDFs or only specific documents.

    • If possible, test with a newly created PDF to rule out file-specific issues.

Also, for testing purposes, create a test user profile with full admin rights, and install Acrobat. Check the performance of the app.

Let us know how it goes, and share your observations. Please reach out if you need any assistance.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
