Question

Adobe Acrobat Preflight dialog will not open.

Adobe Acrobat 2026.002.21901 64-bit. Windows 11.  The Preflight dialog is not opening using the Preflight button or the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + X.  I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, waited for the Preflight plugin to install.  I’ve toggled the Security settings on and off, disabled my virus checker but I cannot get it to load.  The Plugins says Loaded: Yes Certified: Yes  Version: 18.6.0 (276) Date: 9/6/2026 9:47:30 PM. The Preflight.api is present in the Plugins folder.  What’s up with this? Anyone else having this issue?  I used it last about a month ago and it was AOK then. I need this tool!

Since Preflight is showing as Loaded: Yes / Certified: Yes and Preflight.api is present, the plugin itself seems to be loading. I’d look at Acrobat’s preferences or another plugin next.

Try resetting Acrobat’s preferences, then restart Acrobat and test Ctrl + Shift + X again. Adobe notes that damaged preference files can cause Acrobat features to stop working.

I’d also temporarily move any third-party plugins out of the Acrobat plug_ins folder and test again. If Preflight still won’t open, Adobe’s Acrobat Diagnostics tool can collect logs that may help identify what is preventing the dialog from loading.

    1. I’ve already done that and there are no updates.
    2. I created a new Windows user profile and that worked.  Do you have any idea what could have changed with my regular Windows profile that would cause this or how I could fix that?

      Thank you!

    Hi @Raeben,

Thank you for reaching out, and we can see you've already put in a lot of effort troubleshooting this, reinstalling, rebooting, toggling security settings, and even ruling out your antivirus. It's frustrating to lose a tool you rely on, especially when it was working fine just a month ago.

Since the Preflight plugin itself shows as loaded and certified in your Plugins list, a couple of things are worth trying next:

    1. Are you on the latest version? Check via Help > Check for Updates. A partial or interrupted update can sometimes leave a plugin registered but not functioning correctly.

    2. You can try opening Acrobat under a different Windows user profile with admin rights, if you have one available. If Preflight opens there, it indicates something specific to your Windows profile rather than to the Acrobat installation itself.

Here's a thread where another user encountered a similar issue, and Community Expert PVM Reklame shared their input there. It may be worth a look to see if their suggestions apply to your case: https://adobe.ly/4xGpuGl

Please let us know how it goes. We're happy to help further.

    Thanks,
