Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017

We have this fillable form, that when the user inputs information into the 1st two text boxes it applies that to a barcode that changes...recently they are not working to change and appear as either a default barcode and no change, or a grey box. 

 

The form is locked through the document management portal we use, but should allow user to fill it out.

 

This is through the web in the photo but the user downloads it and opens it in 2017, below is just to show the barcode / two fields

    The barcode is a rather specialized type of form field.  It does not work in Reader without a special Reader Extension and it is not supported in nearly all 3rd party PDF viewers.  In the latest Reader, it will display a gray box if the input changes. In older versions of Reader it simply didn't change. 

    If your management portal is adding some kind of password or certifcation, then it is likely the barcode update is being blocked by that.  BTW: saying "form is locked" means next to nothing. How is it locked?   

    So it seems that what you are seeing is the standard behavior, not something new.
