Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 Greyed out "Save" button

Hello,

One of my clients computers can't seem to save a pdf using file --> save. It is greyed out as well as the save icon on the task bar.

More info: they download a pdf from our website and save it to thier desktop. They open the pdf with adobe acrobat pro 2020. They make edits to the pdf. They go to save it and the buttons are greyed out. This client used the save as function to save the file, naming it something different, and that works to save, however, when they open the newly "saved as" file and make further edits, the save button is still greyed out.

I ran a repair and that didn't help. What are some other troubleshooting steps?

Hi,

a couple of issues can prvent Saving a document:

- The document was downloaded, received... and saved on the computer as read-only. You can check this by right-clicking on the documen's icon in Windows Explorer, choose Properties and deselect Read-Only. The equivalent on MAc (File > Info) is the same.

- I experienced similar issues with files opened from network drives or SharePoint synced locations

- With the file opened, Check File > Properties (Ctrl + D) to check the security tab. There might be a setting that prevents saving a document

- Finally, sometimes, signatures seem to mess up the save option.

So, save the file on the desktop, or a in a local folder, check the Read-only and properties of the document and if signatures are present.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out and sorry about the trouble.

As you have mentioned above, the "Save" button was greyed out. It generally greyed out when there are no changes made in the PDF. However, it gets enabled once you make the changes in the PDF.

Did you check if the issue occurs with a particular file? Please check the application name in use. You may check the complete name at the top of the application window.

Share the application and OS version numbers with us. To check the application version number, please use the top suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html

It would be helpful if you can share a small video of the issue occurring at your end.

Let us know if you need any help.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

She edits the document and then tries to save so there is indeed changes to the pdf. It is not with a particular file, it is with all PDF's from all sources. She works remotely and isn't very computer savvy so having her record what is happening will likely not work. I can try though.

Thank you.
