I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, and the software crashes intermittently while navigating through scanned pages and more frequently when inserting .jpg images into a file. During these actions, the computer’s memory usage increases significantly until the system becomes unresponsive and the application eventually crashes.

I have submitted multiple crash reports to Adobe, but have not yet received a response.

The specifications of the software and PC are as follows:

System type:                 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for sharing the detailed information — that’s really helpful.

I understand how frustrating it can be when Acrobat crashes repeatedly, especially during everyday tasks like scrolling scanned pages or inserting images.

Based on what you’ve described, the behavior points to a possible memory-handling or rendering issue rather than a hardware limitation, as your system specifications are sufficient to run Acrobat Pro DC smoothly.

Regarding the crash reports: thank you for submitting them. These are automatically collected and analyzed by our engineering team, and while individual replies aren’t sent for each report, they do directly contribute to identifying and fixing issues in upcoming updates.

Here are a few steps we’d recommend trying to help isolate or resolve the issue:

1. Disable Protected Mode (for testing purposes)

Go to Preferences (Ctrl+K) > Security (Enhanced) > Uncheck 'Enable Protected Mode at startup'

Restart Acrobat and monitor if the crashes continue
(If this helps, it strongly indicates a compatibility issue with the current Windows build.)

2. Check for Third-Party Conflicts: Temporarily disable any third-party PDF tools, antivirus real-time scanning, or system optimization utilities to see if they’re interfering with Acrobat.

3. Reset Acrobat Preferences as described here https://adobe.ly/4r5mz6a and see if that works. Corrupted preferences can also lead to crashes. Resetting them often stabilizes performance.

You may also go through the steps shared in the help articles listed below:

If the issue persists after trying the steps above, please let us know:

  • Whether the PDFs are primarily scanned/image-heavy
  • Approximate file sizes
  • Whether the crash occurs with all PDFs or only specific ones

Also, please collect the Acrobat crash logs https://adobe.ly/3YP80rA and share them via any cloud storage, for further investigation.
