Adobe Acrobat Pro File-Saving Issue

A user regularly compiles large PDFs (typically 100–300 pages) with bookmarks for executive and leadership review. When attempting to save these documents—particularly those with extensive bookmarks and structure—Acrobat Pro takes anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes to complete the save process. In some cases, the application becomes unresponsive for extended periods.

From what she’s found online, this appears to be a known issue with Acrobat Pro, but we’d like to know:

  • Has this been addressed in the latest version of Acrobat Pro?

  • Are there any recommended settings, preferences, or steps that might improve save times for large, bookmarked PDFs?

  • Is there a best practice for handling documents of this size and structure in Acrobat?

It should take seconds. This is not a large file, by any means. I've seen files with tens of thousands of pages and thousands of bookmarks that took (much) less time than that to save.

Does this happen with all files she's saving, or just some? Do you know how those files were created?

Are the files being saved locally, or to a network or external drive?

What's the exact version number of the application (You can find it out by going to Help - About Adobe Acrobat)? What's the OS version?
