Adobe Acrobat Pro - Sharing pdf files

How do I create a url for sharing and downloading and viewing? I do not want the my invited client access to converting or editing the pdf file.

This does not apply to a file that has already been downloaded. Once that happens, you can't control what the user does with it, unless it's protected using DRM. The only option to achieve something similar to what the OP asked for is to apply a security policy to the file that prevents editing, but those are easily overcome, unfortunately.

They can also digitally sign it, which will not prevent editing per se (although it does make it more difficult), but will allow you to prove it happened later on (as editing will invalidate the signature).

Hi @Flawless_world7180,

Thanks for reaching out! We’d be happy to help clarify how PDF sharing works in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Sharing PDFs via Adobe Acrobat Pro

When you click “Share” in Acrobat, you’re offered a few options depending on your version and whether you’re signed in with an Adobe ID:

1. Share via Link (Adobe Cloud Storage)

This is the most common and streamlined method:

  • Your PDF is uploaded to Adobe Document Cloud

  • A secure link is generated, which you can send to others via email or messaging

  • You can choose whether recipients can view only or comment

This method does not attach the actual PDF file to an email — it creates a hosted link that can be accessed from any browser.

2. Send as an Attachment

If you prefer to send the PDF directly as a file:

  • Go to File > Attach to Email

  • Or save the file manually and send it through your preferred email client

Note: The “Send as attachment” feature may rely on a configured email application on your device (like Outlook).

Permissions and Control

When sharing via link, you can:

  • Manage access (view-only or comment)

  • Track opens/downloads (if enabled)

  • Revoke access anytime from your Adobe account dashboard:  https://adobe.ly/4lEukNN

Let us know how it works for you.

Best regards,
