Adobe Acrobat Reader (5.5 & 6.)- error opening file (temporary file could not be opened)

Good all day !

Very often, when you open the file you receive an error "There was an error opening this document. A temporary file could not be opened". On the second, sometimes third attempt, the file opens. Similar can be observed in 5 different.5 and 6th versions of Acrobat. Operating system - WinXP professional SP1.

I would be grateful for advice.

The current version of the free Adobe Reader is DC. Reader 5 & 6 have not been supported for years. Acrobat 7's support ended Dec 28, 2009, and I would expect that version 5 & 6 ended long before that date.

Since Reader is free, I would suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of Reader. It will also provide the latest security fixes.

On XP SP3 you can use Reader XI (11).  SP1? Nobody can remember.
