Correct answer Dov Isaacs

Well,....I'll trust that's "how it works"

Can you answer my original question

If I purchase Adobe Acrobat Standard 2017,

install it,

open Revit,

select "print" ..

select "Adobe PDF"..

go to Properties.

can I select Arch D size paper

click print

a PDF is printed

OK, you are not asking whether you can print the PDF file created but rather can you create the PDF file in the first place via Revit in conjunction with the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance.

In theory, the answer should be yes assuming that Revit properly interfaces with the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance. We have had reports of various “issues” with recent versions of Revit properly interfacing with that driver.

At Adobe, we have no copies of Revit to try this out with.

Assuming that (1) the PDF file from Revit is a valid PDF file and that you have a printer (and print driver) that accommodates 24"x36" printing, there is no reason why such printing should not work.

the PDF file is created by Adobe

Actually Adobe doesn't fully create the PDF files from Revit. They start with PostScript from Revit. And it is possible that one can modify a PDF file after creation – thus my comment about a “valid PDF file.”

Acrobat is not “the printer driver.” It outputs to the Windows printer driver serving the device. The device's printer driver is an integral part of the process of taking the output of Acrobat and converting that to the page description language of the printer as well as controlling issues such as support for page sizes, tray selection, etc. In the case of PostScript printers, Acrobat (and Reader) do generate the PostScript directly and pass that through the driver to the printer, but the driver still is necessary for managing supported paper sizes and other device capabilities (tray selection, duplex printing, manual feed, etc.) and passing that information to Acrobat.
