Sorry for the troubled experience. 
If you have Acrobat Standard's subscription model, you can't have both Reader and Acrobat installed on the machine. It is recommended that you install Acrobat if you have a subscription. 

And ideally, it shouldn't stop installation but rather give you a prompt. If you are still experiencing this issue, try removing the Reader app and then installing Acrobat.
