Adobe Acrobat X-File Saveas ReducedSizePDF doesn't work anymore. It used to work just fine!

What happened?  Suddenly, Acrobat X-File/Saveas/ReducedSizePDf doesn't work on my Mac any more!  I recently installed maxOS Sierra Version 10.12.3.  Is it incompatible?

Could you please expand on your comment in terms of “it doesn't work anymore.”

Are you getting an error message? Is the program crashing? Or is the file simply not reduced in size at all or enough?

The size reduction feature of Acrobat doesn't guarantee a smaller PDF file size. Depending upon the contents of the PDF file, there just might not be anything left to reduce the size of. For example, if all you have in the PDF file is text and/or vector artwork, no metadata, and the object streams area already compressed, the file reduction feature will not reduce the size of the file one iota.

Let us know exactly what you are seeing and the evidence for your saying that it is not working so that we might be of better assistance.

The OS update itself should not be a factor here from what we know. This functionality of Acrobat is not OS feature dependent.

I sure appreciate your prompt and thorough reply, Dov.  Thank you.

Acrobat X 10.1.16 doesn't do anything when I select File/Saveas/ReducedSizePF other than offer to save the file with the original filename (e.g.. 18MB, resulting from a scan). It used to ask if I want to "Replace" the original file, but this no longer happens.  It just sits there, inactive, when I try to save it using either the original filename or a new filename (which it doesn't save).

Colour me mystified,

Richard

PS As a workaround I tried Acrobat Reader, and find that this File/Saveas/ReducedSizePDF function works just fine.

I tried searching our (i.e., the Adobe) website for any issues such as you describe and haven't found any (yet) unfortunately.

One risky but possible solution (which I hate to offer) would be to totally obliterate your existing Acrobat 10 installation, reboot, and reinstall, applying updates through the most recent and see if that resolves the problem.

Worked before Sierra, doesn't work properly after Sierra... I think you answered your own question

Seriously doubt that the OS update would cause a single feature such as this, but not others, to no longer work.
