After it closes, wait and see if a "User agreement" pops up. If it does, click "Accept." That's what solved it for me.

CORRECT SOLUTION / REAL ANSWER:

1. Install official Microsoft Compatibility Administrator found here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/get-started/adk-install#adkwin10

2. start "Compatibility Administrator (64-bit).exe" in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Windows Kits\Windows ADK\Application Compatibility Toolkit\Developer and Tester Tools\

3. expand "System Database" > expand "Applications" > find and click "adobe creative suit 6" > on the right window "right" click pdapp.exe "Disable Entry"

4. Run Acrobat X Pro, now insted of crashing it will show a "new" adobe activation agreement (this is what was crashing the acrobat x pro), you can now accept it and Acrobat X Pro runs with 0 issues in 2021. (no need for any compatibly modes).

Did this and it still didn't work for me - Acrobat X Pro just won't open at all or even try.

Assuming you're using a current OS (like Windows 10) there's not much else that can be done. Acrobat X is outdated and not compatible with it, so problems are to be expected. It's time to get a new license, or a subscription, if you don't want to end up in the same situation in the (possibly) not-so-distant future...

Had the same problem with a new harddrive with Windows 10, but my copy of acrobat 10 pro stayed open for about 15 seconds before crashing. I found it was just enough time to rush to Help, Check for Updates. It found the update just before the program crashed, but by then the download had started. It continued to download and then install. And my Acrobat 10 Pro is now working just fine, even allowing me to reinstall a Java Script file to flatten the pdf after adding images, etc.

Rick.

You don't need to open Acrobat to install the updates. They are all available on Adobe's FTP site, which I linked to above (however, you can no longer open this link in most browsers, and will need to use a dedicated FTP client for that).

I'm sure you are absolutely correct. I know next to nothing about computers, and have no idea how I would go about using a dedicated FTP client to download the updates (when I tried the link for the update, I simply got a new blank screen). So I posted what worked for me, and which just maybe will help other Luddites like me get the darn program working again!

WHen I got my new  HP Win10 computer (previously had a Dell Win10) and reinstalled the Adobe CS6.  It worked for a while.  Never had trouble on the older machine.  But with the new machine running an Intel processor (earlier was another processor) the CS6 Adobe Pro began staying up for ~10 seconds before shutting down. Thanks to the suggestions in this thread 1)installing the updater; 2) turning off the Internet connection; and finally 3) running in compatibility mode, it is now working again. Which was the key -- I dont know...maybe the compatibility mode.

Other parts of the Suite worked even before all this...so am not sure what happened with the Adobe Pro.  Mostly I use Photoshop and Acrobat.  Just glad it is working for now.

Use the AcroCleaner Version 2 (AcroCleaner for 10.x and later on Windows) to cleanup failed or partial uninstalls of Acrobat products.

Try a re-installation on your Win 10.

Yes, but really don't uninstall, clean up or reinstall CS apps unless you REALLY have to. You can run out of activations, and the older versions (CS1, CS2, CS3) will never work again... some apps keep running but won't reinstall. Desperate last resort.

I did install the update and that seems to have cured the problem. Leave it up to Billy to mess things up .

The fact it installs doesn't mean it will work correctly.

To be honest, I stopped my Acrobat DC subscription in Oct 2019 and reinstalled my (perpetual) Acr X Pro on my Win10Pro system. In addition Update to Acr X Pro V1.1.016 had been done.
I restarted with Acrobat DC subscription in April 2020 as additional installation. Last update Acr DC on May 2020 has been successful installed.
Both Acr versions are still working.
By the way: there is a possibility to repair an Acr installation...

We're seeing a lot of these reports lately.

Acrobat X is outdated and not compatible with Windows 10, so any update to the latter might "break" it.

You should make sure you update Acrobat to the latest version available (10.1.16, available here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/10.x/), and maybe run it in Compatibility Mode with an earlier OS, but that's about all you can do.

That is hogwash

I have been running 10x pro on win 10 for a very long time without any problems. I had to redo my computer and now all of a sudden i have problen crashing.

If you remade the computer you probably lost the update. There is a bug but Adobe fixed it many years ago. Still, since Windows 10 changes all the time, it will break again one day.
