Question

Adobe Acrobat X Pro stopped working as a full version and suddenly became a trial version and the serial number would not work to activate

I purchased Adobe Acrobat X Pro many years ago and it has been working terrific for the entire time.  Quite suddenly and with no changes a Trial Version screen started to appear and asked for a serial number to activate.  I tried to enter the serial number that I had on the original packaging but to no avail.  Needless to say the “trial period” ended and I now have no access to the product.  Itried all of the suggestions on the help center (Uninstall, reinstall, install trial version, delete certain files) to no avail.  How can a product that I purchased just stop working and how can I get it to start working again?!

I finally got a hold of what sounded like an Southeastern Indian support person on the phone.  I was told the product was no longer compatable and that is why it expired.  I tried to explain that my operating system was the same since I had purchased the product and that nothing had changed except that it suddenly became a trial version and that the key ID would not work.  She continued to tell me that there was nothing they could do to get it working again, but she could offer me a discounted monthly subscription service.  I am Sorry, but this is a fraudulent and deceptive business practice,  It apepars to me that from my product registration the company realized that I was using a one time puchase product, that they found a way to deactivate it and force me into a subscription service which would cost me more in one year than I paid for the software to begin with.  While this might seem like a great business model to those at Adobe Corporate Headquarters, it is deceptive and dishonest.  It is one thing for a piece of software to no longer work in an operating environemnt, but nothing has changed on my end!  I would NEVER go back to an Adobe product based on this experience with their business practice.

The only thing I can think of of is that you accidentally clicked on a tool that is now part of the "Adobe Document Cloud" (like Send for Signature or certain Export PDF cloud features), the software may have tried to log you into a modern Adobe ID, which overrode your old serial-number-based offline license. I don't have Acrobat X Pro on my computer, but there should be a License Repair Tool, maybe try that, https://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html

Since you have already re-install, and used the Adobe Cleaner, you may need to run it as an administrator versus as a user too

Thank you, unfortunately the tool indicates it doesn’t work for X Pro.  I wish there was a person on the other end who could actually help me through it.  I think you are right on what may have caused it.  I get adobe docs from work sometimes and I may have done something like you described a while back!  Damn the luck!

@Dhlavac if your work is providing PDFs to you, ask if they can provide you a license copy to work with. Either that, try using Acrobat in your web browser?
