Adobe Acrobat X Registration Fails

When I try to use the product register option in my Adobe Acrobat X (APRO 10 WIN RET) on my Windows 10 laptop, it fails to connect so I am unable to enter the serial number for activation.  I get a message that says "Could not register your product at this time. Try again later.".  I have removed all the Adobe entries in my hosts file as was suggested in a post I saw but this has not made any difference.  I know it's an old version but it's never been installed on a computer so the serial number should still be good.  At this point, I think I'm having a problem connecting to the Adobe secure activation servers as opposed to a problem with the serial number (since I don't even get to enter it).  Since I have this software, I just want to use it to learn about creating and modifying pdf files.  Assuming I like it, I'll want to upgrade to a newer version later.  I'd like to register this copy so I can use upgrade software rather that full install software later.  Does anyone know how I can register this product?

I installed Adobe Acrobat X a few days ago and it seemed to be working properly.  Over the course of a couple of days, I tried several times to use the Product Registration option (in the Help pull-down menu).  Today, I noticed that the Product Registration option had disappeared and instead there was an option to repair the Adobe Acrobat X installation.  I performed the repair option and then the Product Registration option reappeared.  So far, whenever I select the Product Registration option, it asks me to enter my e-mail address and password for Adobe.  I enter my user information (which does work on the Adobe Website) and, after a minute or two, it returns a message indicating that it can't register the product right now and it includes a suggestion that I try again later.

there's no point to registering that.  registration is for a program that old is meaningless.

update to the last acrobat x update and leave it if you're satisfied with the way it works and it's security (or lack thereof).

update by downloading the files directly and then applying them:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

confirm that you can connect to the secure adobe servers.

for help with that and other common secure adobe.com connection problems read, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html

I clicked on the link to test server connection and I got the page with the two Adobe logos.  From what I read, that's supposed to mean that I connected successfully.
