Question

Adobe Acrobat XI Does Not Print Double-Sided

I am using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro (11.0.23) with Windows 7 (64 bit) and a Hewlett Packard CP2025 dn laser jet.  For some reason it stopped printing double-sided sometime in the past few weeks.  All of the print dialogue boxes show the double-sided option (which I select).  I can print double sided using the Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word and Excel); so it seems there must be somelthing wrong with the way Acrobat is communicating with the printer.  The printer has a new driver (the HP Universal Driver) which may be the problem, but I have been unable to find where I can download a previous version of the driver on the HP website.  Still looking.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for reporting the issue.

There seems to be some issue with HP's new universal driver. We'll check for the same; in the meanwhile i suggest to remove the printer; and add the traditional printer driver following the below steps :

  1. Control Panel > Devices > Printers & Scanners
  2. Remove the printer
  3. Click on Add New printer (devices)
  4. Enter IP of the connected printer or Select the same from the available devices
  5. Select the port as "Documents \ *pdf" or any other
  6. Find HP from the list and click on it
  7. From the list of available printers select appropriate driver. See the screenshot of the same below.

Try PCL6 driver. And also you can refer to link for more help.

Please do let us know if anything else is required from our end.

Thanks to both Amal and Swapnil for your quick replies:

I did previously uninstall the HP Printer driver package and reinstall per the instructions you provided.  The problem persists.  I did  some more investigating, though, and find that I can print some pdf documents from Acrobat XI double-sided, just not this one.  But I was able to print this particular document double-sided back in March-April.  That leads me to wonder if one or more of Acrobat XI, Windows 7, or the HP Printer driver changed in that time and is no longer communicating correctly with the the others.  The only thing that's changed (that I'm aware) is the HP Printer driver.  I'm currently trying to find where on the HP website they've archived previous printer drivers so I can download and revert back in order to see if that solves the problem.

The other possibility (?) is that there's some code or instruction or setting in this particular pdf that's causing the problem.  This file is a journal article downloaded from the journal's website.  I don't know what application it was originally created in.  If this is a possibility I'm happy to send it along if you tell me how.  (I don't see an option  to do that here.)

The ultimate solution, of course, is to upgrade both Adobe Acrobat and Windows.  That's on my list of things to do, but work deadlines keep getting in the way.

Thanks again.

Hi There,

No new code has been changed for Print; except the UI which does not affects the functionality.

Please do let us know if anything is required from our end.

Hi Joseph,

We are sorry for the trouble. Adobe Acrobat XI is an old and end of support application. For more information please refer to the help article https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/kb/end-of-support-acrobat-xi-reader-xi.html

You may try to reset the printer and see if that works

  1. Go to Control Pannel > Administrative tools > Print Management > Print Server > Add/Remove Server > Remove All > Click OK
  2. Reboot the computer and Reinstall the Printer driver and check.

Regards

Amal
