Adobe Crash Processor.exe prevents renaming of parent folders after PDF is closed.

Thank you for bringing this up. I understand how disruptive it can be when background processes prevent you from renaming or managing folders.

The Adobe Crash Processor is part of Acrobat’s crash-reporting mechanism and normally closes when Acrobat exits. If it continues running and blocks folder operations, this may indicate that the process isn’t terminating as expected.

Here are a few steps you can try:

1. Update Acrobat/Reader – Please make sure you’re on the latest version of Acrobat/Reader, as recent updates include fixes for background process behavior.

2. Check background process settings—In Acrobat, go to Edit > Preferences > General and disable any setting related to background processes, such as “Enable troubleshooting” or “Improve product usage” (depending on your version). This can reduce unnecessary background activity.

3. Work with IT for policy adjustments – Since this is a work computer with restricted permissions, you may want to request IT to create an exception that allows the Adobe Crash Processor to terminate properly, rather than deleting it (which we don’t recommend, as it can impact error reporting).

4. Temporary workaround — Depends on permission levels. If you notice the process is still active after closing Acrobat, you can end the task from the Task Manager, but this should be a temporary step until IT can apply a permanent configuration. 

If the problem persists even on the latest version, we’d like to gather logs for a deeper investigation. In that case, please share details with IT, who can escalate it to us with crash logs for engineering to review.
