Adobe Email Archiver Freezing

We have various versions of Adobe in our office environment. Adobe 10,11,12,DC, using Outlook 2010, on Windows 7 machines. We have been using the Adobe PDFMAKER auto email archive for sometime with odd results. We use it to save multiple email folders to several locations on the network. It will at various times just pull up on a single computer and freeze part way through the auto archive process. Does not display an error, nor does the log file give clues as to why it has frozen. It will just freeze on a random folder with the progress bar window open. No one version of Acrobat seems to perform any better or worse than the others.

Have tried various things to resolve. Repair of Adobe, uninstall and reinstall of Adobe remove and re enable the plugin. Remove the stuck folder from the list, rerun the auto archive and it will then stick on another random folder, remove that folder from the list and it sticks on another folder and so on. We have also made sure to check that the folder paths are correct and reachable.

Cannot seem to find much info on limitations or system requirements for this plug in to work. In this work environment we are using it to archive to network shares. We cannot be the only workplace that this plugin freezes and performs poorly yet I find very little information on the internet about the archiver issues. Adobe online tech support has been about as helpful as a brick upside the head in trying troubleshooting information, or at least helping to resolve issues.

Hello Oregon_tech,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, Adobe PDFMaker for auto email archiving is freezing the outlook on Windows 7 machine, Is that correct?

Please check for any pending updates of Acrobat from help>check for updates, reboot the machine and see if this makes any difference.

Try disabling the Protected mode in Acrobat once, and see if it's still freezing the auto archival process. To disable Protected mode, please refer to Protected View feature for PDFs (Windows), Adobe Reader

Note: Disabling the Protected mode is only for testing purpose, please enable it back.

As you mentioned that you have already tried reinstalling Acrobat, but the issue persists, please create a test user profile with full admin rights and test.

Could you please share a screenshot of the error/issue you are facing? To share the screenshot, please follow the steps from the Adobe article https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7043#jive_content_id_How_do_I_attach_a_screenshot

Also, the dot version of Acrobat installed, to identify refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

For Adobe Email Archiver freezing on Win7/Outlook 2010: Update Acrobat (Help > Check for Updates, reboot). Disable Protected Mode at startup (Edit > Preferences > Security > uncheck). Test in new admin user profile. If network shares involved, verify permissions. Win7 is EOL—consider upgrading to Win10+ for stability. Share Acrobat exact version for more help!

For Adobe Email Archiver freezing on Win7/Outlook 2010: Use compatible Acrobat 10.x (check via Help>Identify Product). In Outlook: File>Options>Add-ins>COM Add-ins>Go—disable/re-enable PDFMaker, run as admin. Test in new user profile. Reinstall Office first, then Acrobat. Simplify settings: Adobe PDF>Change Conversion>Smallest File Size, uncheck extras. Local archive path if network issue. Share exact version/screenshot!
