Adobe for Mac - How to make the Navigation Pane NOT open by default

Hello all, I have scoured the community posts for a solution and found nothing to make the navigation pane not consume so much of the screen when opening a document for the first time.

Please know that I have nothing pinned on the navigation pane and I seldom open the SAME pdf repeatedily.  Any help to that does not go down these paths will be much appreciated.  I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 2023.003.
