Question

Adobe PDF printer is very slow

I've noticed since upgrading to Windows 11 on a new computer that printing to PDF with Adobe PDF printer is very slow and it often becomes unresponsive. What used to take 5-10 seconds to print now takes upwards of a minute or so. I haven't been able to find much support online as most similar issues are about printing a PDF to paper (rather than printing from an application to PDF). Is this a known issue? Do others have this problem? Is there anything I can do to improve the speed?

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Is this a behavior with a particular file or with all the files? Please try with a different file and check.

Woud you mind sharing the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to help > about Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 21.11.20039 installed. Go to help >check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also try to repair the installation from the help menu and check

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win and try using the application there and check

Regards

Amal

Hi, Amal, thanks for your reply, and my apologies for the delay in my response.

The behaviour is with all files, whenever I use Adobe PDF printer. And unfortunately it seems to be getting slower by the day. If I use Microsoft Print to PDF, it will print any file very quickly, but it takes ages with Adobe PDF printer. For comparison, see the GIF here (it's too large to attach). I print a new, blank Word document with Adobe PDF and with Microsoft Print to PDF. The GIF ends as soon as Microsoft Print to PDF finishes printing. You can see how much slower Adobe PDF is.

I do have the latest version of Acrobat DC installed.

I've tried reinstalling Acrobat, but that didn't help. I haven't tried the repair option you describe only because, at the moment, I'm using it constantly with multiple files so I can't close it. However, when I finish my work this weekend, I will try to repair using the instructions you've given.

I am the only user on my computer, and I have the only account (thus I have full admin privileges). I'm not sure that creating a new account on my computer would help.

Thanks again.

I've just done a repair installation as you suggested, and it did not improve anything.
