Question

Adobe "Prepare Form" does not recognize a "square" intended for use as a "check-box".

I am presently using TeXstudio 4.0.0 (git 4.0.0), configured to use 'Lualatex" for creating PDF documents and forms. Up to a point, that works fine. Adobe "Prepare Form" can recognize most fields correctly. However, it fails to acknowledge "squares" intended to be used as "check-boxes" automatically. It completely ignores them.

I have tried several different "font packages" I am presently using the "bbding" package, but that should not be the cause of the problem since other font packages are not being correctly recognized either.

Once upon a time, several years ago, Adobe worked correctly. Therefore, I believe it is a regression bug. I have no idea how to get the Adobe engineers to look into this problem. I would welcome any assistance available.

No, it won't. The only way to get it to recognize certain characters consistently is with a script, like this (paid-for) tool I've developed that will convert various Wingdings characters to check-boxes or radio-button fields, with 100% accuracy: https://www.try67.com/tool/acrobat-reader-convert-wingdings-characters-to-check-boxes-or-radio-buttons

It looks interesting; however, before I pay out $40.00, I want to see if it works. Do you have a version that will work two or three times and then stop until a license number is inserted? I cannot afford $40 on an untested application. At least, not at this time.

I don't have a demo version for this one, but if you contact me privately I can run it on a sample file and send you back the results, so you could see that it works before purchasing it. You can contact me privately via [try6767 at gmail.com].
