Question

Adobe reader

My laptop is using Windows 7 and I have been using the Adobe reader for years.  It recently stopped working and I can no longer open a .pdf file.

I have tried to download the "Free Reader" but, when the download is complete, I receive a message that "A newer version is already installed". If that is true, why can I NOT open a .pdf file?

Hi Garyc

We are sorry for the trouble. As described you are getting the error message a new version is already isntalled.

The error is shown due to a missing update for Universal C Runtime in Windows. Install the update using one of the following ways as described in the help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1722--there-is-a-problem-with-this-windows-installer-packa.html)

Regards

Amal

This is the download I tried:

All supported x64-based versions of Windows 7 [Download] Download the package now.

This is the result:
404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
