Adobe Reader freezes when opening signed pdf

Adobe DC (2019.021.20048) fails to read signed pdf. The pdf opens but then freezes and after a while vertical lines appear onscreen.

One workaround is to go View, Show/Hide, Navigation Panes, Signature and at the Signature pane that appears go to 'Signature details' and select the bottom link 'Click to view this version'. Then it seems to work fine (the signed pdf) but only until you do some other action and it freezes as before.

I use a LENOVO Thinkpad laptop with Windows 10 (10.0.18362).
