Question

Adobe reader is printing a document in lower resolution than Preview

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem printing this document  https://arxiv.org/pdf/1608.05728.pdf

IN particular, a mac using preview is able to print it faithfully in a laser printer capable of 600dpi. the fonts display perperly and there is no problem with it.

However, trying to print the same pdf on a windows machine running adobe reader, and on the same printer, the resultion is poor and the letters are not well defined (some of them blur out and don't show some of the traces)

I am not sure how to fix this. Is there any way to force adobe reader to print at higher resolution? why could it be that the app preview can print the *same* document on the *same* printer with higher quality than adobe reader?

Word and other apps can print with much higher resolution and without any problem in the windows machine. it seems to be a problem affecting only Adobe reader (or perhaps any pdf reader?).

Any help will be appreciated!

Hi.

Be sure to untick the "Print as image" option in Print : Advanced.

Hi qutrit44,

We tried to print this document on our end. We are able to print file without any problem and the fonts are clearly visible.

Please try "Repair Installation" under Help menu.

Also refer the troubleshooting steps provided in this help link: Troubleshoot PDF printing in Acrobat and Reader

Check if it helps in resolving the issue.

If issue still persists, please provide the dot version of Adobe Reader and OS installed on your system.

Regards,

Meenakshi

The problem comes when printing from Windows 10. My printer is a HP m277dw. Macs (using preview) and even my ipad can print the pdf with no problems. however the windows machine cannot. I have the latest version of the PCL6 driver. Could it be that the mac is using a postscript driver and the PCL driver has trouble with these particular pdfs? I am not sure how to fix it but I can't print with the same quality on my mac and my windowsa computer. I send a sample here: Same document printed with the same printer. one using Adobe reader from the windows machine, one using a mac and preview:

MAcOs and preview:

Windows 10 and Adobe reader:

Note how 'excited eigenstates' is printed with different qualities.
