Question

Adobe Reader won't open, Adobe Acrobat opens instead

I search for "Adobe Reader" and I specifically download Adobe Reader from the official Adobe website, but whenever I open the app or any pdf, Adobe Acrobat Pro opens instead and then it forces me to buy a license. How can open Adobe Reader?

Hi @Isai33196015fa67

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Please remove the application using the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html  , reboot the computer once and reinstall the application using the direct link https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and see if that works.

Additional information:

The 64-bit application is a unified application for Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. If you have installed Acrobat Reader 64-bit and you purchase an Acrobat subscription, the Acrobat Reader 64-bit application will upgrade to become a fully functional Acrobat 64-bit application

Hi @carol355087605q5j

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the delayed response.

It is possible if you have a work machine managed by IT or if the application has become corrupted due to an interrupted update.

We can try a few things:

1. Repair - launch Reader > Help > Repair installation.

2. Uninstall Reader using the cleaner tool: https://adobe.ly/4qoHXUt

Then reinstall.

Let us know how it works.
