Question

Adobe Skipping PDFs on Merge

I just realized that Acrobat has not been merging files correctly. For instance, a couple of weeks ago I merged 9 files into one PDF. The total page count should be 297. I just realized that there are only 108 pages in that file. When I merge the same 9 files today, my document is only 55 pages. I have restarted Acrobat and my computer multiple times. I'm on version 24.3.20054.0.

This must be an ongoing issue, as I discovered last week that a set of some 200 PDFs I merged was missing at least one file.

I have reproduced the same error on two different Windows 11 machines running Acrobat Standard DC.

I select all 18 PDF files in the folder and right click > "Combine files in Acrobat"... only 16 files are shown on the next screen. However when after right clicking I choose "Show more options" and then select "Combine files in Acrobat" then all 18 PDFs are shown on the next screen.

Hope this helps someone

Hi Aivar385,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry about the trouble caused.

As the issue still occurs, please share the screen recording showing the workflow. Also, can you check if you can combine files within Acrobat without issues?

Please share the machine's Acrobat and OS version numbers. Also, could you test the issue for 4-5 files and see if you experience the same behavior?

Feel free to let us know if you need any help.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

I converted the trouble PDF into images so I could import it with the remaining 8 documents. I received the following error, "expected an array object (Page 24).

My biggest issue is not the merging of all the documents (which is now complete), but rather that I cannot trust Acrobat to merge all my files and is not alerting me to potential errors during merger.

Thank you for your help!

Hi @eric_9946 Trust you are doing well. I'm from Acrobat quality team. Aplogies for the inconvenience caused. Could you please provide information for us to debug the issue,

1. Is the merging issue happening with a specific file? Are there more such files that you are experiencing merging issue with?

2. Will it be possible for you to share the errorneous file for us to lok at it?

3. Secondly, for convert to image issue of expected an array object, is it happening with jpg or, png images?

4. Please share your OS version

Regards,

Subrato

Thank you for your speedy response!

1) I know this happened in this one instance. I'm going through my past mergers to see if this has been happening and I haven't spotted it. I often merge several hundred PDFs into one file and it would be very easy to lose one or two.

2) Yes, I can forward you the file if you reach out to me via email.

3) I converted the offending PDF into jpgs when I received the error message.

4) Windows 10 Enterprise Version 22H2

My main concern is that I'm trusting Adobe to merge several thousand pages into one file and that somehow, one or more documents are not being included.

Thank you again for your help!

Additional information: I have found that if I skip one particular PDF in the batch of 9, it will correctly merge the remaining 8 documents. It appears something about that PDF is derailing the process. That individual file is 24 pages and will open by itself in Acrobat. I did not create this problem PDF, but it appears I have full permisssion and should be able to merge it.
