adobegcclient.exe Acrobat cpu bloat -- how to fix?

Hi --

Adobe Acrobats' protection application, adobegcclient.exe, is consistently eating up 25% of my CPU and causing my fan to continuously run high. This is obviously very frustrating, and I nearly sent my HP Spectre back to HP, until HP Tech Support determined the Adobe utlity was the culprit.  How do I stop this?

There must be a bug that causes this program to be such a hog, but how do I fix it? I was on with Adobe Tech Support for 45 minutes, they did a number of things in my Windows Registry, but on reboot we got cut off and I never heard from them again. Anyone have a solution?  (If not, is there a good alternative to Acrobat that people recommend? I can't believe I pay Adobe to bloat my system). Thanks!

Hi there

We are sorry for the trouble and the delay in response.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat/Reader DC you are using? TO check the version go to Help > About Adobe Acrobat DC
Make sure you have the latest version 20.009.20065 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal

+++ Correction

  • Latest version was released today to 20.009.20067

This update addresses CPU hogging for a specific issue with the LogTransport2 file.

LogTransport could be related also to  adobegcclient.exe. And maybe this update can fix that.

I just checked: it's version 2020.009.20067. (It looks like it may have updated itself).

I did receive a reply from Adobe support suggesting that I rename adobegcclient.exe to adobegcclient.old (wherever it is located). I did that a few days ago.  And today my fan was running high again, and I looked and saw that Adobe GC Client Application (which must have re-installed itself) was again running at 23.9%

This is very frustrating. It's leading to a feeling that if my computer fan is running high and annoying me, I must be running Adobe software. Does Adobe care that it's protection software is a hog? (And I have an i7 processor with 16 GB RAM).

Sorry, I don't mean to vent at anyone in particular, it's just annoying that I'm paying for software that is mucking up my system. Should I try uninstalling Acrobat DC and reinstall again?  Or seek an alternate program for PDF's?  Thanks...

Are you at work behind a firewall/router that is using a commercial VPN solution or openVPN?

OR ,  are you at home with a residential WiFi router  also using a VPN?

Hi, I've been experiencing the same issue with the Adobe GC Client Application running for no reason, even when Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (basically the only Adobe software I have installed) isn't running. I am at home using a work laptop which has a VPN installed, but the VPN is not currently running. Does the VPN somehow affect this application?
