Question

Advanced Optimization Compression making changes recently

Hello all,

After filling out form templates and saving them I always go into the optimization settings to compress the files so they take up way less space and can be attached to a gmail without the need for a google drive link or anything. The documents are flattened (term borrowed from photoshop as that is where my forms initially were), but it just removes the editability and makes the forms read only.

The past couple weeks I have noticed that after compressing the files, something changes though. Letters in words are removed and replaced with apostrophes or periods. I have only noticed the changes being made to text fields, but all my forms have been affected. I tried adjusting the settings in the advanced optimization dialog box, but nothing seems to be helping.

In the mean time I have been saving the files as images, but I am curious if anyone else has seen this or if there was an update/setting that I am now missing. Is there a better way to compress I should be doing maybe?!

Thank you for any help.

Here is an example of what I am seeing...

Hi Odin1806,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

As it happens with all the files you compress, please share a sample PDF with us and a screen recording of the steps on how you compress the file. Also, please share the Acrobat and OS version numbers currently in use.

Please confirm whether you are creating these files or just filling out the form fields.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

For some reason I can't get the recording I made to play correctly, but here are the files. But here is what I have always done.

  1. Compress a PDF
  2. Advanced Optimization
  3. PDF Optimizer dialog box opens and i click ok (See photo for settings of this, but I have tried changing these with no improvement either.)
  4. Save the files and click through the following popups about saving over existing files and etc.

The FILL PDF is uncompressed and editable (the before) and the SAVE PDF is compressed and flattened (the after). On this save it edited the line that previosuly mentioned "Malarkey Vista" pricing. Note that the "Vista" has been replaced by a bunch of periods. It also removed the 'p' in "er" up next to the check boxes for the "Nails" option and then added an apostrophe...

Is this enough additional information to help?
