Question

After converting word docs to PDF they open fine but when attaching to database errors in "xero length file"

The database generates a word doc with mail merges. we then convert the doc to pdf with right click or within word. The files are on a network share along with the database. When we go to upload the new pdf the database gives us "Zero Length file" error. Its funny we can open the PDFs fine and view them grreat. No formatting errors. THEN we save the doc (save as) to the same network location (but obviously dif name) and it accepts the pdf.

I have been trying to figure this out for a while now and nothing has worked. All PCs are Win7 Ult x64 and all using Acrobat DC.

Thank you!

I am imagining some software which has the job of making sure all enterprise computers have the same set of printers. So they would synchronise to a list. And remove any excess. It is just a possibility but worth pursuing perhaps. Also other enterprise policies. Consult your enterprise admins.

I am the enterprise admin, and cannot figure out why the pdf printer gets 1) disconnected/removed at next boot/logon and 2) why pdfs converted from MS word over the network on a shared folder wont attach to database. All setting are default and has worked perfectly before upgrading to DC from X.... VVery frustrating as this is or seems to be a simple issue....

I wonder if there is enterprise software to synchronise printers. Worth checking.

It seems clear Acrobat can't be involved in writing the database and can't be writing the message - or is it somehow involved? Seems you need to analyse the process writing the spurious error.

I do, another weird thing the PDF printer is doing is every time user turns on computer "Adobe PDF" printer is missing? I have to re add this printer manually. Windows is not liking this PDF printer and it makes no sense why....

Sounds like you need to talk to the people who make the database (or who make the app which you use to write to the database, if you aren't the programmer).  This isn't something related to any Adobe software; seems to be an incorrect message from the database.

It also seemed to start happening when we upgraded from Acrobat X Standard to Acrobat DC. If they save as the newly generated pdf it will attach fine. Also worth to note I sat with an employee to watch the process and they could not reproduce this error. it worked every time I was there so I do not know what the issue is.
