am unable to even edit the text to replace them.

Hello, and TIA. I have tried to troubleshoot and did a repair to no avail. And I did not merge anything. I have a new client, and I am about to lose them if I can't fix this. After seven hours of successful editing (as successful as you be can with Adobe), I was going for my last save and all of a sudden the page got choppy. The menu was garbled and out of place. It has happened recently but did not wreck my work. Worst of all, a lot of the text turned into boxes. (The document was made in InDesign but someone no longer there.)

I hoped I could simply open another copy I have and C&P the text where the boxes are. Except, I can't. Those areas are unable to be altered now. I can manipulate other parts, but not these pages. I can't spend another seven hours re-doing what I just did, as #1 I have a deadline, and #2 It could happen again.

I really, really, hope someone out there can shed some light, and it would be great if I could undo what happened and not lose this work. Because there is a deadline, I will have to tell the client they are out of luck with me if I can't fix it.

Please help!

Thanks,

Janet

I'm afraid you've learned an important lesson, the hard way: PDF files were never meant to be edited directly, especially not extensively.

If you need to fix a simple spelling mistake or slightly adjust the location of some element on the page it might work fine, but for anything beyond that you really have to go back to the original file format, edit it there, and then create a new PDF file from it.

If your client doesn't have access to these files then they need to re-create them. Asking you (or anyone else) to edit a PDF file directly is asking for trouble, as you've seen.

Oh, I know, but people don't get it. I literally cringe when asked to edit a PDF. But I have edited many, many PDFs, and it is all simple text corrections such as periods and misspellings. So, I have no idea why today was different other than it was acting strange last week too.

So, is there nothing I can do with this thing?

I am also concerned that it may something more. Adobe keeps crashing now.
