Question

Alt text formatted phone numbers, but read aloud still reads what's printed too, after my formatting

Hi All

I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and working through making some PDFs (created from InDesign) accessible. Upon testing, the read aloud function reads my Alt-text formatted phone numbers as straight number sequences, (eg 6107) but then proceeds to read the text underneath (eg 'six thousand one hundred and seven') which I don't need.  I've formatted the phone numbers as separate figures, what am I doing wrong?  How can I get the program to accept my Alt text, but not the copy underneath?

Thanks Everyone.

PDF accessibility is a very fast moving area, with new standards and tools. It is unwise to try to use 12 year old software, you will likely fail all validations. Note: Read Aloud is not considered an accessibility tool and is certainly not an accesibility validator.

Hi there

Do you know which programs are considered an accesibility validator at all please?

Hi Ally,

We are sorry for the trouble. As described, read aloud function reads the Alt-text formatted phone numbers as straight number sequences, (eg 6107) but then proceeds to read the text underneath. Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try to read out a different PDF file and check.

Also, Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro is a pretty old application and no longer supported. The updates and security patches are no more available. For more information please refer to the help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/end-support-acrobat-8-reader.html)
