Question

Hi @lorena_3395,

Thank you for your question.

We completely understand your preference to manually place signature fields in a form rather than using the “Request Signature” feature.

If you’re looking to add a digital signature field in a PDF form (so that others can sign it later), you can absolutely do this using Acrobat, without initiating a signature request via Adobe Sign.

To manually add a signature field:

1. Open your form in Adobe Acrobat (not Reader).

2. Go to Tools > Prepare Form.

3. Click “Add a signature field” (or use the signature icon from the toolbar).

4. Place the signature field wherever needed.

5. Save the form and send it to recipients — they’ll be able to sign using Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.

Important Notes:

  • Recipients must use Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader to sign using the designated signature field.

  • If someone opens the form in a web browser, mobile app, or non-Adobe PDF viewer, the signature field may not work correctly or may not appear at all.

  • For digital signing workflows, we strongly recommend users download and open the PDF in Acrobat/Reader for a smooth experience.

Note: Why “Request Signature” is Sometimes Suggested

The “Request Signature” option is part of Adobe Acrobat Sign. It is useful for collecting legally binding signatures with email tracking and cloud hosting. However, if you just want a fillable form with signature fields, using Prepare Form (as above) is the right approach.

Wait for more inputs from experts.

I don't have that option, I can only add the "Electronic Signature Field"

That's the same thing. Adobe keeps renaming stuff, unfortunately.
