grato

This is not an OS file extension visibility issue. The problem occurs within Acrobat's own Save dialog — when typing a filename containing periods (e.g., "22. İd. Mah."), Acrobat rejects the save or strips the extension, even when file extensions are visible in Windows Explorer.

The filename "22. İd. Mah.pdf" works fine when renamed directly in Windows Explorer. The issue is specific to Acrobat's internal filename validation introduced in recent versions (2025.001.21288).

This is a regression. Previous versions accepted such filenames without issue. For users working with Turkish legal and administrative documents, dotted abbreviations in filenames are standard practice. Please escalate this as a bug report.

Hello Sergio!

I hope you are doing well.

If renaming PDF files with periods (dots) in the filename (e.g., document.v1.pdf) causes the extension to change or disappear, this is typically due to operating system settings hiding file extensions. Adobe Acrobat does not restrict filenames with dots, but the OS may misinterpret them.

Show File Extensions in Windows/Mac:

  • Windows: Open File Explorer > Go to View > Show > File name extensions (enable this).

  • Mac: Open Finder > Settings > Advanced > Show all filename extensions (enable).

  • This prevents accidental extension changes when renaming.

Rename Files Safely in Acrobat:

    • Use File > Save As in Acrobat to rename the PDF, ensuring the .pdf extension is retained.

    • Avoid using multiple dots (e.g., file.v2.pdf is safe if extensions are visible).

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.2043x Optional update, Mar 19, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and check. For more information, see this: https://adobe.ly/41DXPqM

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
