API integration of comment, review, and signing functionality for PDFs?

Does anyone know if and what the scope of support within PDF comment and review functionality for integration or API communication with custom apps. I have the need to leverage the ability to distribute documents, track through a review process with commenting, and collect results. The documents in question are built automatically and then distributed to users on a scheduled basis. I would need pretty detailed integration in order to build in the automation, and to build in reporting and interaction with the PDFs into the custom application. Any experience you've had or direction to documentation or resources is greatly appreciated.
