when I want to comment a pencil used to be displyed as an option.  Now only a highlighter.  How do I get the pencil back - I used to fillout forms with my pencil in my own handwriting?

I have just surrendered my attempt to use Acrobat on my iPad with Apple Pencil to annotate some pdf files.  It may be possible, but is certainly not friendly or intuitive.  As a regular Acrobat DC user this was a very disappointing experience.  After wasting more than a reasonable amount of time, I bought PDF Expert for the iPad, which worked exactly as described the first time.

Yeah, Acrobat has so many parts to it that finding what you're looking for can be a chore.

If you do not see the Tool you want on the right-hand column, go to your main Tools page (right adjacent to the Home page in the upper left-hand corner), and select Comment. (Note: you can add that to the right-hand column by clicking on the "Add" option just below the tool.)

Now, you should find the Pencil/Drawing Tool near the middle of the options. Note that you can change both the color and the thickness off to the right (in the rectangular area I marked out below).

Please let us know if this is what you were looking for.

I used to import a document into acrobat. Then at the bottom right I selected “comment” then at the top, center, a few options appeared one was a pencil icon. I could change thickness, colour etc. That option just disappeared. There is a highlighter in the place where the pencil was. Top left icon is now highlighter instead of pencil (see photos?)

If you read my suggestions above, you'll see that you can place a Comment icon on the right bar. Once it's in the right bar, you can mouse down and drag it up or down to place it to your desired location.

When you updated at some point, you were provided the default locations and default items of the various tools. This is all customizable to make it just the way you want it. Which might be very different from what I want — that's why it's customizable.

For example, if the Pencil tool is something you'd use all the time, you can place it in the Quictools section by right-clicking in that area:

Then you can go down to the Comment section and find the Pencil tool then add it to the top QuickTools section

And then it will be there for you even easier than sitting in the right tool section.

I do hope this will work for you.
