Application of Redaction Issue

Hi,

 

I have carried out the initial steps to redact text within Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. When I 'Apply' the redactions, I get the usual message checking if I want to continue with permanently removing all content that has been marked for redaction. When I select 'OK' it begins to apply the redactions but then closes Acrobat. When I reopen the file, the redactions have not been applied. This has happened on several occasions and on the most recent attempt there was an Application Error message, "The instruction at 0x000000007A80AE73 referenced memory at 0x000000000E699000. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program."

 

Having once again tried to apply redactions the same problem is occuring but without the Application Error.

 

Is this a known issue and are there any fixes I can apply?

We are sorry for the trouble. As described you are getting the error message shared above while applying the redactions to the PDF file.

 

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version please go to Help > About Adobe Acrobat DC and make sure you have the latest version 20.12.20041. Go to Help > Check for Updates.

 

Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try to redact a different PDF file and check.

 

Please try to turn off the protected mode for testing and see if that might work. Go to Edit (Windows), Adobe Acrobat DC (Mac) > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck the 'Enable enhanced security at startup' > Turn off the protected Mode and Uncheck the Enhanced Security > Click OK and reboot the application and check.

Hi Amal,

 

The version is 2018.011.20055. There is no option to check for updates in the help menu and I also can't see that option in any other menu.

 

I tried redaction on another file and it worked so it does seem to be an issue with this one particular file.

 

I turned off protected mode but the file still closes when I try to apply redaction.

We see that you are using quite an old version of the application. Please try to update the application manually using the patch from the link https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

 

Also, as it seems to be a file specific issue, would you mind sharing the file with us for testing so we can check it at our end and assist you better. Please upload the file to the document cloud https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/home/ , generate the link and share it with us.
