Arbitrary mask more than one format

I'm trying to undersatnd Arbitrary masking where i can format anywhere from one capital letter (from A-Z) in one field.  In another field i'd like to do 3 capital letters (from A-Z).  I'm not sure if i put this in arbitrary mask in the PDF or if i should run a custom validation script.
