Barcodes cannot be scanned after conversion from DOCX to PDF

I am having a problem with barcodes in my PDF files.

I create documents in both Microsoft Word (Office 2016) and Adobe Framemaker 12, many of which contain barcodes in 3of9 Barcode font. I then generally print to PDF. When I had Acrobat Professional 12 installed, the barcodes could be scanned with no difficulty. Now that I've upgraded to Acrobat DC, the barcodes will not scan unless I go into Edit PDF, and set Horizontal Scaling to 100, and Character Spacing to 0.01.

I cannot say definitively that this problem is being caused by Acrobat, but the issues seem to have started around the time I upgraded. Is there a way to control these settings so that scaling and spacing default automatically to 100 and 0.01? Is there something else I should be looking at?

Also, is there a way to default magnification to Fit to Page when converting from Word or Framemaker? Not related, but this would be a huge help in reducing production time.
