The icon comes from the software you are using and is based on the file type (name ending .pdf). It isn't part of the file.

The only place I know where it makes a difference if you are planning on creating an interactive PDF vs. a non-interactive PDF (as was stated before, both are "normal" PDF files), is in InDesign. Other than that, a PDF is a PDF is a PDF, and the file manager in your operating system cannot determine if a PDF file has interactive features without actually parsing the file. The only truly non-interactive PDF file is one that does not allow modifications, and does not have any form fields, links or comments already assigned. Anything else is an interactive PDF, because you can interact with it by e.g. adding a comment.

Let's take a step back: Why do you need to know if a PDF file has interactive features?

I work creating interactive PDFs, and I think it would be very useful for

people (including myself) to know just by seeing the Adobe icon that is

Interactive. Especially in pdf files for cell phones. Many times the people

who receive them do not realize that they can perform actions by pressing

zones, even though there may be an icon or a button in the document.
