Best workflow to result in smaller PDF size

I know just enough about Acrobat to be dangerous but not enough to be efficient at all.  I need be able to make a lot of different PDFs of images without them breaking the bank on disk size.  The PDFs will be viewed online and will be printed also. I have to be able to email them and put them on the web for download. Some of the images are actual photos while some are typed pages or pages out of printed material. A single PDF might have one type of image or it might have both.

I've searched online for some time trying to find info about the actual workflows and can't seem to get the question answered.  I have access to the following programs for one part of the process or another... Photoshop, MS Office, Acrobat Pro and then several different scanners with their software.  Brother, Epson and CZUR.  Thank you!

The best answer you can get is "It depends.". There's no general way to get the best results in size and quality because the the differences of the sióurce material you'll get from the different scanners and original images. You can fiddle around with Acrobats Preflight plugin. It comes with a lot of corrections for all kinds of PDF related problems.
