Question

Black box appears when using add text comment

I’m having an issue that started about two weeks ago where anytime I use the add text comment tool and click on the page to write something this black box appears.  I can type but can’t see what I’m typing. If I click off the comment I can see the text fine but if I click on it to edit it the black box comes back.  I can also highlight the text and see the words but the black box remains on any part not highlighted.

Acrobat is updated, windows, and my graphics card are all updated.  I’ve also uninstalled and reinstalled acrobat entirely.  The problem started randomly.  I’ve also messed with the rendering settings in preferences.  Any ideas?

Hello, that is for the text comment box which does work as intended and does not have any black while typing.  The fill color in that tool is already white.  I’m talking about the text comment.

I also notice this graphical error occur when using the text callout tool.  The arrow portion has the black box appear under it while typing text in the box, but like the comment goes away once not longer being edited.

    Hi heyyodogo,

Thank you for providing the information and the screenshot.

It appears that you are using the classic version of Acrobat. We attempted to replicate this behavior in the new version, and it works fine on our end. Could you please switch to the new version and check if you experience the same issue? This is just for testing purposes.

It would be helpful if you could share the following information:

    • A short video showing the steps you take to add text, as this will help us understand the problem better.
    • The version number of Acrobat you are currently using.
    • The operating system version on your machine.

Please let us know if you need any assistance.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

     Hi heyyodogo,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

It appears that the fill colour for the Add text comment is set to black. Please check the comment properties. Use the steps suggested below:

    • Open the PDF and right-click on the text box.

    • Select Properties from the list

    • Under the Appearance tab, check the fill colour set.

    • If it is black, click on it and select white or the required colour.

    • Mark the box for Make properties default.

    • Click on the OK button to save the changes.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi
