Bookmarks Panel displays "_GoBack" Thumbnail at top

Hi, I don't quite know what to make of this I'm getting a PDF with a "_GoBack" Thumbnail in the top position. I'm using Indesign CC to create the PDF. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

Hi Bernd,

I managed to resolve the issue that day. It was related to a formatting error - a rogue text anchor had become embedded in the text on one of the first few pages of the document, unbeknownst to anyone.

This is actually a known problem… Word keeps track of the last location you were editing a document. On the Mac, for example, you can edit in one location, then place your cursor somewhere else in the file and then press Command-Option-Z, and it will jump back to the location where you were editing.

So when you save your Word file, Word seems to save that position as a Bookmark, which is placed into the document. InDesign should ignore that _GoBack bookmark/anchor.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. I thought I'd posted the solution last year but I can't locate it so I'm posting it again.

When this type of error’s inserted in the navigation bookmarks panel of the PDF – it means some type of cross-reference is anchored in the text on the InDesign page that this link goes to. How to locate it:
• Click the navigational link in the PDF to see where it goes.
• Go to the InDesign publication and find that spot.
• Cursor highlight the text
• Click the Type menu and at the bottom of the type menu, ensure “show hidden characters” is enabled.
• Cntrl Y to go to story editor
• There should be an anchor located somewhere around or within the text
• Delete it
• You then need to recreate the PDF with navigational bookmarks
