Brother DCP-T720DW not appearing in Adobe Acrobat Reader printer list

Hi All

Suddenly encountering something weird. My PDF viewer Adobe Acrobat Reader (Windows 11) has a problem.

I own a Brother DCP-T720DW for which the printer driver is installed and works fine from Word, Notepad, and Chrome. Anyway, the machine does not come up in the list of printer options if I open a PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader and hit Print.

I've tried:

Though the machine is correctly shown under Windows Settings > Printers & Scanners and a test page can be done easily, Acrobat Reader is still not showing the printer when printing a PDF.

This is something that I am encountering for the first time. Have you had any experiences with this issue with Brother printers or Acrobat Reader? Should I look into a particular Acrobat setting or a PDF print service?

System Information:

  • Windows 11 Pro 24H2
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Brother DCP-T720DW connected via Wi-Fi

Thank you for your time and assistance.

    Hello @ashishaj,

Thank you for reaching out, and we really appreciate the thoroughness of your post.

Thank you for reaching out, and we really appreciate the thoroughness of your post. The steps you have already tried and the system details you provided make it much easier for us to help you get to the right answer faster.

Since the Brother DCP-T720DW prints without any issue from Word, Notepad, and Chrome, this is clearly not a printer or driver problem on your end. Everything at the Windows level is working exactly as it should.

We would like to run one diagnostic step to help us pinpoint exactly where the disconnect is happening between Acrobat Reader and your printer list.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and temporarily uncheck Enable Protected Mode at startup, restart Reader, then open the print dialog and check whether your Brother printer now appears.

Protected Mode is an important security feature, and we are not suggesting you disable it. This step simply helps us understand whether the sandboxing behavior is influencing how Reader enumerates printers in your specific environment, so we can point you to the right resolution with confidence.

Please share the outcome, and we will take it from there.

    Hi Tariq

Thanks a lot for the tip.

For now, I turned off Enable Protected Mode at startup via Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and launched Adobe Acrobat Reader again.

Interestingly, after I did this, the Brother DCP-T720DW printer came up in the printer list and I could open the print dialog without any issues.

I guess Protected Mode is somehow interfering with printer detection in my case.

However, since Protected Mode is a very vital security feature, do you have any suggestion for a long term fix that will allow the printer to be detected without compromising on Protected Mode?

Thank you very much for your help once again.

@ashishaj - is this is a network printer?
