Bug report: PDF Portfolio function

Windows machines seem fine printing PDF portfolios. The problem started only after a MacOS update + using Acrobat's Portfolio function. The application will only print the first PDF of the job and the remaining PDF's will fail. This points to a compatibility bug between the new MacOS version and the Acrobat build you're using. Adobe’s Mac software sometimes lags behind OS updates (especially big MacOS releases like Sonoma or Ventura), and PDF Portfolios are a known weak point—they rely on legacy tech that doesn’t always play nice after major system changes. Specifically: Acrobat may fail to process multiple print jobs from the portfolio because of: Changes in how MacOS handles print spoolers, Security sandboxing of files inside a container (Portfolio), Or broken scripting bridges between Acrobat and MacOS printers. Steps to reproduce (Portfolio > Print All > fails after first doc).

I am currently having this issue with Windows 11, and I also can't use the workaround of combining all of the files into a single PDF. Hopefully, the compatibility issue will be fixed soon; it is handy when it works.

Hi @cara_9539,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble with printing portfolios with Acrobat on Mac.

To narrow down the root cause, I have certain questions around the topic for me to take this further with the development team:

  1. Which version of macOS are you currently running?

  2. What exact version of Acrobat are you using?

  3. Are you printing to a local printer or a network/shared printer?

  4. Does the issue occur with all PDF portfolios or just certain ones?

  5. Have you tried extracting the PDFs from the portfolio and printing them individually?

  6. Do you receive any specific error message after the first PDF is printed?

  7. Does the issue occur when printing from Preview?

  8. Is your Acrobat updated to the latest version (2025.001.2047x)? To do so, go to Help > Check for Updates.

  9. Do you have any third-party security or printer management software running?

Also, some suggestions to try as a workaround. Convert the portfolio into a single PDF:

  1. Open Acrobat Pro.

  2. Go to File > Create > Combine Files into a Single PDF.

  3. Add all files from the Portfolio.

  4. Save and print the new PDF.

Let us know if this could be a working solution for now until I get answers from our development team based on our response.

Also, some general info around printing portfolios can be found here: https://adobe.ly/43dZ299.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Souvik.

-version 2025.001.20476
Are you printing to a local printer or a network/shared printer?

-Local printer

Does the issue occur with all PDF portfolios or just certain ones?

-It is occurring with all PDF portfolios

Have you tried extracting the PDFs from the portfolio and printing them individually?’

-Yes, and that works, but we want to use the PDF portfolio function in order to print multiple PDF’s at a time.

Do you receive any specific error message after the first PDF is printed?

-The only message that we receive is the queue showing “failure” under STATUS for the remaining PDF’s in the set.

Does the issue occur when printing from Preview?

-yes

-Yes
Do you have any third-party security or printer management software running?

-No we do not

Also just a follow up on this. We prefer not to use the "combine files" function due to some of the PDF's not having text embedded/flattened on the PDF's. When we use the combine files function, any text that is not flattened/embedded on the PDF is removed, which we can't have. So that is why we are trying to use the portfolio function because it keeps all of the data intact on the document.
