Question

Can layers be separated ?

I have PDF documents with a floor plan of our office building.  One of the layers contains:  workstation ID, persons name and network plug number.  Is there a way to further separate these layers ? I'd like to delete the persons name and network plug number, but keep the workstation I.D.

Thanks

Do you have access to the original document that created the PDF? That would be the best way to remove the unwanted elements and/or put them on their own layers. Other options would be to try to edit the PDF, as try67 suggests. You can first lock the layers you don't want to edit using the layers panel, which might make it easier to select and edit the text, or you could place the PDF into InDesign and set new copy for the workstation ID then delete the original layer (or turn it off in InDesign using object layer options), then export a new PDF. If the original PDF was created in Illustrator, you may be able to open and edit it in there. Go to File> Properties> Description in Acrobat, to determine the application that created the PDF.

It's not ideal, but you can probably do it using the Edit Text and Images tool, or even the Redact tool.
