Can not fill and sign PDF

Question

Can not fill and sign documents. Selecting fill and sign and tool bar does not show options  except sign. Cursor shows I-beam but wont allow any typing or marks. Tried both ways, interactive and not.I am opening in e-mail with default Acrobat reader. Free version. Windows 10.

The PDF is likely an Acroform or XFA (Livecycle) form which already has existing form fields. You can fill out those fields without using the Fill & Sign tool in Acrobat which is really designed to allow you to fill out documents that do not have actual form fields (scan of a form for example). The Fill & Sign tool will still allow you to add an electronic signature to these types of forms.
