Hi everybody,

Suddenly i can not send a pdf for an Email Review anymore. Last week there was no problem, but now i get the following message:

"The message could not be delivered, the mail server at filter4.mijndomein.nl [188.93.148.250] said:

<<< 550 Message contained spam content (PUA.Pdf.Trojan.EmbeddedJavaScript-1)"

Do i have a virus on my Mac or is there a other reason for this problem?

Thanks for your help

Hans

Hi Hans,

It sounds like the email server is blocking your PDF because it thinks there's something suspicious inside — specifically, it mentions , which sometimes gets flagged as a possible security risk.

This doesn’t mean your Mac has a virus. Most likely, the PDF you created has some built-in JavaScript (which Adobe sometimes includes), and the email filter is just being extra cautious.

I came accross the same issue, but from a different perspective.

My mailserver rejected mails from specific senders, and all reported "PUA.Pdf.Trojan.EmbeddedJavaScript-1" virus found!

In my case I'm using a Mailcow mailserver that utilises ClamAV software to determine if the mail contains any virusses.

Very likely the mailserver at the addressed person you have uses a mail-server that also utilises ClamAV to detect virusses.

The issue here is that you PDF contains embedded JavaScripting which is considered insecure.

Virusscanner (like ClamAV) cannot determine if your PDF contains javascripting that is malicious or not.

As such, they reject any e-mail containing a PDF with embedded JavaScripting.

Now... you can address all mailserver operators and ask them to whitelist "PUA.Pdf.Trojan.EmbeddedJavaScript-1" in their mail-server like I did, but I am afraid that task is going to take you years. But better is to makes sure your PDF does not contain embedded JavaScripting.

I'm not an Adobe PDF specialist, so I can't tell you how to fix this.

But I did find this article that will likely show you the way:

Good luck!

It can be a fault detection of the mail server.

Oké. I thought of that. But:

- why is it happening suddenly?

- and can ik do something about it? When it is a detection of my clients maiserver, it is here problem. But i like to suppliy a solution for my client.

The message gives you the information about the mail server.
