Can't connect to Adobe servers to verify subscription

Recently I was given back a company computer that used to have Acrobat Pro installed (and working). Previous users have removed it for some reason and now, when I install it again, I cannot login.

First, I was installing it via the Creative Cloud app where I am logged in, but then in Acrobat itself it would tell me I am running a 7 day trial version and pressing the "Sign in" button didn't do anything. In the help menu I could see that I was logged in but trying to access account details would result in a "Can't connect to Adobe servers" error. I followed some instructions found in these forums to remove the app using the Acrobat Cleaning tool and reinstall using installer from this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html but now I am getting the connection error unable to verify my subscription when I try to open the app and it forces me to close it. I tried following these steps: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/licensing-errors.html#1xx but none of them worked. I tried disabling antivirus software but that didn't help either. I created a new admin user and tried installing and running the app again but the same error occurs.

I am running a 32 bit Acrobat Pro app on a Windows 8.1 64 bit OS (I cannot install 64 bit app, it won't let me).

Adobe scaled up the security requirement for connecting to the Internet. See here and check if that can be the cause: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/eol-tls-support.html
